Featured Projects
Shanghai Science and Technology Museum
Following an international competition, RTKL was awarded the complex task of designing a new science and technology center for the city of Shanghai. Faced with the challenges of both embracing the culturally sensitive past and representing the future of an emerging high-tech city, the designers created an architectural statement that has become a local and national civic and educational icon.
Salamanca Train Station
With an existing urban railway station at its core, a new commercial development in Spain introduces a cinema, restaurants and shopping to local residents and travelers. By “placemaking” at the scale of the city using local materials and integrating a public plaza, designers helped owners to meet the goal of a commercially viable destination with a strong civic presence.
New Jiang Wan Cultural Center
Nestled in the city’s last wetland preserve, Shanghai’s latest and most comprehensive urban development, New Jiangwan Town, is a model for a sustainable community for the 21st Century. In its heart is a new cultural center, designed to showcase the area’s environmental sensitivity and celebrate the vibrant and evolving community.
Embassy of Singapore
When designing the Republic of Singapore’s embassy, located at the gateway to Washington’s new embassy district, RTKL hoped to capture the spirit of the country, while maintaining the complex’s stately appearance. The resulting design combines building form and landscape to express Singapore’s image as a lush garden city and a growing progressive country.
CSC Aldershot
Computer Sciences Corporation, a global technology leader, consolidated its 10 UK locations to increase efficiency, improve communication and enforce a single corporate culture. The award-winning complex, a series of buildings in a historic woodland setting, serves as a cultural, learning and research hub that promotes teaming and collaboration.
Xiaoguang Liu AIA, Vice President
“Great architecture in the 21st Century is about much more than aesthetics. It reflects society, the arts and government; it reveals as much as it fosters the culture in which it exists; and it represents the future without losing sight of the past. Perhaps most importantly, great architecture creates landmarks, sources of pride and national expression that are both highly relevant to their locales and easily communicable to the world.”
