Asia

Active in China, Japan and other parts of Asia for two decades, and with an office in Shanghai, RTKL has created some of the continent’s most celebrated developments. From museums and residential developments to urban revitalization projects and Olympic stadiums, our work stands as a legacy to the exuberance of Asia’s economy and culture.

Featured Projects
Chinese Film Museum
Like the nation itself, China’s film industry has evolved dramatically over the last century. To honor this formidable history and the accomplishments of Chinese filmmakers, the new Chinese Museum of Film is designed to blend the art of film with architecture, while also incorporating flexibility, environmental friendliness and self-sustained integrity.
Tokyo Bay Rehabilitation Hospital
Healthcare Japan commissioned RTKL to provide architectural services for the new 90,000-SF rehabilitation hospital, constructed on Yatsu-Hoken’s existing campus. The 160-bed specialty hospital provides chronic care, including occupational and physical therapy for both inpatients and outpatients. It houses a full rehabilitation gym, a hair salon, and a Japanese or Tatami room.
City Crossing
In the heart of a former fishing village turned thriving metropolis stands City Crossing, a world-class mixed-use development that is serving as a catalyst for surrounding development. A model for future developments of its kind, the three-phase project blends a large retail center with hotel, office, residential, transit and public space.
Shanghai Science and Technology Museum
Following an international competition, RTKL was awarded the complex task of designing a new science and technology center for the city of Shanghai. Faced with the challenges of both embracing the culturally sensitive past and representing the future of an emerging high-tech city, the designers created an architectural statement that has become a local and national civic and educational icon.
LaQua Tokyo Dome City
Adjacent to the Tokyo Dome in the heart of downtown Tokyo, this comprehensive, mixed-use entertainment facility accommodates visitors to its 200+ yearly events. The development, situated on top of an ancient hot spring, integrates a Ferris wheel, rollercoaster, spa, restaurants and retail establishments, and functions as a unique escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The Mallz
Strategically located in the prosperous industrial city of Ludhiana, India, the Mallz brings a variety of grouped retail and entertainment options under one roof, creating a “Malls with a Mall” format. The environmentally friendly design features sky spaces, landscaped greens with water features and fountains, and a controlled microclimate with dust management.
